VOSKENS - CUSTOM SPECIES

PAGE STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION

- Voskens are a custom species created by me, Auccultist! Originally concepted in 2020, I'm finally trying to get around to making them public (in 2025).
- They are an open species, meaning that anyone can make them, as long as they follow the guidelines! There is also a closed subspecies called arch-voskens. Please read all info below before making a vosken.
- I would highly recommend joining the Toyhouse Group to keep up to date and share your vosken!

1a. abnormal lacrimal caruncle

The 'lacrimal caruncle' is the fleshy part between the eye and the bridge of the nose. On voskens, this part is always large and 'v' shaped!

This is one of the main ways to identify a vosken. The exact purpose of this abnormal shape is unknown, but it is spectulated that it helps filter gunk away from the eyes, useful in their swampier environment.

1b. slitted pupils

Voskens always have slitted pupils, though the sclera and iris can be any colour and even have patterns present.

These pupils are similar to that of a crocodile's, and can dilate in lower light to help them seem better. Voskens can't see quite as well as humans, and their sight is used mostly for identifying fish underwater, which is the majority of their diet.

2. large, shaped ears

fig 2a. Voskens always have large intricately shaped ears. They often also have colourful patterns present on the skin part of the ear! Ears vary from vosken to vosken, so feel free to make your own shapes as long as it follows the general vibe. The spear-like shapes coming from the ears are referred to as hasta(e).

fig 2b. Arch-voskens can have small floating pieces next to their ears, often looking like they've been cut out of the ear itself. These pieces are called morsum.

fig 2c. Vosken ears never have fluff on the inside or on the tips.

These shaped ears are used to absorb more heat when basking. Voskens often also have bright coloured patterns on the insides of their ears, which they flash as both an intimidation behaviour and also for mating displays.

3. pronged nose

fig 3a. Voskens have noses somewhere between canine-like and bat-like in appearance. The canine-like nose always has two or three prongs pointing up at the tip.
fig 3b. single-lancet and regular canine noses aren't possible for voskens.

The prongs on their nose (lancets) are highly sensitive and pick up electromagnetic signals, aiding hunting in murkier waters

4. webbed paws

fig 4a. Feral voskens have paws very similar to canines, but with webbing inbetween the digits.
fig 4b. Anthropomorphic voskens have human-like hands, but with paw pads and webbing between the fingers.

Their webbing develops early in their lifetime and heals incredibly well. Living in a swampier environment means that this membrane often becomes damaged, but fully heals within a few weeks.

5. dentition

fig 5a. About 60% of voskens have large protruding saber teeth. Their dentition is similar to a canid with the incisors and canine teeth, though their premolars and molars can vary. Voskens have tongues similar to snakes, only the fork happens much further up.

fig 5b. This example shows canine premolars and molars.

fig 5c. This example shows pinniped (crab-eating seal) premolars and molars.

fig 5d. This example shows shark-like premolars and molars.

These forked tongues can be flicked, enhancing their sense of smell. This can allow them to 'smell' things underwater!

6. horns

fig 6a. Roughly 50% of voskens have some kind of horns, keratinious masses that sprout from their foreheads. These horns can be large or as small as you'd like, and any shape as long as it's not floating away from the head.

fig 6b. Arch-voskens are capable of having floating horns and shapes made of karatin around their heads and faces.

These horns are often used in fighting and territorial displays.

7. body scales

Voskens always have scales present on their back legs and back paws, often with a higher concentration of scales on all legs.

8. body spikes

Here is a map of where body spikes can be placed. Voskens don't always have body spikes, so feel free to not include them! Their spikes can be shaped or regular quill-like spines and spikes.

9a. body tufts

Here is a map of where body tufts can be placed. Voskens don't always have tufts, so feel free to not include them!

9b. hair

Voskens commonly have a tuft of hair on their head, though this isn't already required! This is purely an aesthetic thing since I know lots of my followers have dogs with hairstyles :]

10. Crocodilian-like or fish-like tail

fig 10a. Voskens have powerful scaly crocodilian-like tails. The tail of a vosken is generally about the same length of the body itself, and sometimes longer! These tails vary wildly in appearance, though most look like modified crocodile tails. They can look anything somewhat similar to the examples shown here, and can vary wildly between voskens.

fig 10b. Arch-voskens sometimes seem to have tails reminiscent of a fish, though covered in the same keratinous scales present on their underbellies. These tails can also sometimes float similarly to their horn/ear morsum.

Vosken tails are incredibly powerful, made up of dense muscle and keratinous scales. These tails aide in swimming!

Other features:

- Feel free to switch your vosken between anthropomorphic and feral as you see fit :)
- The blood of a vosken is a normal red hue.
- They lay eggs! These eggs are a leathery texture like that of a snake's egg. They always lay 2 eggs and have 2 offspring. /super rarely/ a vosken may have twin eggs, and have 4 offspring at once.
- Voskens can't currently hybridise with other species, I may work out rules for this in the future though ^^'

ARCH-VOSKENS

Arch-voskens are the closed subspecies.
You can't make arch-voskens unless givern permission or if you purchase a ticket to do so!

in the future I will add some little graphics to show what I mean by this
arch-voskens don't have to have any or all of these features, they can have as few or as many as you'd like if a token is purchased.
